A relaxed distillery evening with gin, rum and sharing food
Our Loveday Distillery Open Houses started quite simply. We wanted to open the doors to our working distillery and pour drinks from the source
They’ve since become one of the most popular distillery events in Cornwall, largely because of the feedback we keep hearing from guests. (Thank you!!)
“It feels nothing like a distillery”
One of the most common comments we get is surprise at the space itself.
People often arrive expecting something industrial or functional. Instead, guests tell us things like:
“I thought it would feel quite warehouse-y, but it’s incredibly warm and welcoming.”
“So cosy for such a big space.”
The distillery is still very much a working production space, but once the bar is open and tables fill up, it becomes somewhere people naturally settle into. Many guests plan to stay for one drink and end up spending the whole evening here! Just ask at the bar and one of us will give you a peek into the distilling room while you're here.
Drinking spirits where they’re made
Our open houses are also the easiest way to enjoy a bit of an informal gin or rum tasting without anything feeling formal.
You’re drinking Loveday spirits metres from the still, often poured by the people who distilled them. Guests regularly tell us they enjoy being able to ask questions about how things are made as they order them, try new serves, and discover bottles they wouldn’t normally choose.
Some of our favourite feedback:
“The best gin and tonic I’ve had in ages.”
“I didn’t realise rum could taste like this when it's make in this country!”
“You can really tell everything’s made with care.”
It’s less about structured tastings and more about helping people find drinks they genuinely enjoy.
The pintxos get talked about almost as much as the drinks
Food matters to us. A lot. (Two former chefs here, hi!) so we serve pintxos and small plates designed for sharing alongside the drinks.
This tends to be the unexpected highlight. Guests often mention that the food changes the feel of the evening completely:
“The sharing plates were incredible.”
“Perfect food for grazing with cocktails.”
“We came for drinks and stayed because of the food.”
A different kind of thing to do in Falmouth
If you’re looking for something lovely to do in Falmouth in the evening, our distillery open houses sit somewhere between a bar, a tasting and a hosted gathering.
People come for birthdays, date nights, catch-ups with friends, or just because they’re curious about the distillery. There’s no fixed schedule once you’re in. You can arrive early, stay late, try something new, or just enjoy a drink in good company.
As one guest put it:
“It’s exactly what Falmouth needed. Relaxed, friendly and genuinely different.”
