Negroni Week is just round the corner so it feels only right to celebrate the gin we made for exactly this sort of thing.
Golden Hour is our bittersweet, aromatic gin, distilled with grapefruit, pink peppercorn and rose.
We wanted to make a gin with enough character to stand up in a cocktail. The grapefruit brings that lovely bitter citrus edge, pink peppercorn adds warmth and aromatics, and rose rounds everything out without sending it anywhere near potpourri territory.
So if the words ‘floral gin’ usually have you backing slowly towards the door, stay with us. Golden Hour is dry, grown-up and properly ginny. There are no artificial flavourings and no syrupy sweetness, just real botanicals distilled to give it loads of flavour while keeping everything balanced.
And that balance is exactly what makes it such a useful bottle to have in the cupboard.
It has enough personality that you can make a genuinely brilliant G&T with nothing more complicated than a good plain tonic and some ice. But put it into a Negroni and it won't disappear behind the Campari and vermouth either. The grapefruit leans into their bittersweetness, while the pink peppercorn and rose bring another layer of aroma and warmth.
So you don't need a cupboard full of obscure cocktail ingredients or any particularly impressive bartending skills. One bottle, a decent tonic for easy evenings, and the makings of a Negroni when you fancy something a bit more serious.
In other words, a match made in Negroni heaven.
